APLC

Agir Pour Le Cambodge

APLC is a French NGO which was created in January 1985 by former students of the Lycée Franklin – St Louis de Gonzague (Paris) in response to a humanitarian emergency and to help the Cambodian population which at the time had taken refuge in the camps at the border with Thailand. From the very beginning, APLC put education and training at the forefront of its mission to fight poverty. In 1995 it turned to aiding development and since then it had contributed to reducing poverty and fighting human trafficking.

Our projects

Sala Bai

Every year, 150 young Cambodians from extremely poor back grounds, at least 70% of whom are girls, are trained for work in the hotel-restaurant sector at the Sala Baï School. More than 1,850 students have been trained and found a job in the fastest growing economic sector of the country. A training on agroecology is proposed to all students since December 2020.

KFJPD

The Khmer Foundation for Justice, Peace and Development Foyer in Battambang provides children and youngsters with living conditions that are inspired by the family model and enables them to go to school, conditions which are vital if they are to rebuild their lives and prepare for the future.

A look into Sala Baï organic garden: students’ achievements

A look into Sala Baï organic garden: students’ achievements

Since December 2020, students have grown fruits, vegetables, and flowers in the school’s garden closed to the dormitories. The organic garden is now fully developed and the first vegetables have already been harvested and cooked for students’ dinners. Students' hard work is literally bearing fruit!     To ensure a sufficient supply of food for every student, one section of the garden is dedicated to productive and fast-growing vegetables such as morning glory, long and square beans, gombos (a flowering plant from which fruits are harvested once green and are used as vegetables) and Cambodian eggplants.   Fruit trees were also planted (banana, papaya, and pineapple trees) but the students will have to be patient because the first fruits will not grow until next year! These plants will produce biomass… Read More

The power of Sala Baï: internships for all students

The power of Sala Baï: internships for all students

The long-awaited internships began in December 2020. Despite the crisis in the tourism sector caused by the COVID-19 pandemic and the high decrease in numbers of international tourists in Cambodia, 77 students have already finished their internship in a hospitality establishment (half of the intake). The second group of 77 students will soon begin their internships. Like every year, all students are strengthening their skills thanks to internships in prestigious establishments in Cambodia. The work-study training approach, which defines Sala Baï, is back on track.   Every year, 150 Sala Baï students complete two 2-month internships with our partner hospitality establishments. In 2020, students were unable to complete their internships because of the Cambodian national authorities’ order to close all schools in March 2020 as part of the health safety… Read More

Stepping up APLC’s support for OBT

Agir pour le Cambodge is stepping up its support for the Cambodian charity OBT (Organization for Basic Training) whose main mission is to educate children and improve the living conditions of people in the area around the Chiro village. APLC has decided to finance the salaries of two English teachers, to send two volunteers to work alongside the teams and to assist with the OBT visit to France in September. Since 2019, Agir pour le Cambodge has increased its support for OBT, a charity that works on improving access to education of the most disadvantaged. Financial support provided by APLC will cover the salaries of two English teachers, one full-time and one part-time. APLC has intensified its support for OBT because of the shared values of the two charities such… Read More

OBT’s French tour

OBT’s French tour

OBT (Organization for Basic Training) is a Cambodian charity set up in 2009 by a former APLC social worker. On returning to Chiro, the village where he was born in the Kampong Cham province, he became convinced that the fight against poverty could be won through better access to education. For the last three years, Agir pour le Cambodge has been supporting OBT and funding a teacher’s salary. OBT fights poverty by enabling children and young people from very poor families to access education so that in the future, they’ll have jobs that will help them to improve their living conditions. In order to achieve this goal, the NGO provides children from areas surrounding the village of Chiro, 10km from Kampong Cham, with free after-school classes in English, IT and… Read More

With the children of Sré Ampil

With the children of Sré Ampil

Every year, groups of young French volunteers come to Cambodia to work in the Sré Ampil children’s home. Some feedback. Located 27 km south of Phnom Penh, the Sré Ampil children’s home looks after around 40 children who are either orphans or who have been abandoned by their parents who are too poor to care for them. Present since the home was opened in 1994, Agir pour le Cambodge has taken responsibility for the medical care of these children and for providing extra lessons in Khmer, foreign languages, maths and science, in order to help them to make progress at school. APLC also pays the school an annual subsidy to help with its running costs. Additionally, every summer since 2011, groups of young French volunteers, coordinated by APLC, organise activities… Read More
